Jasmine and Ed know the true cost of Abuse of California’s Unfair Competition Law.

Jasmine Bilamijian and her husband own of Ed’s Auto Clinic in Arcadia.  Last year, the Bureau of Automotive Repair issued a minor citation for leaving a date off an invoice.  Even though the error was corrected and no one had been harmed, Jasmine received a letter from a group of private attorneys accusing them of unfair business practices and threatening to sue unless she paid them a $2,000 “settlement fee.”   

Thousands of other businesses are targeted in the same way.  Abuse of the law has been rampant, and the targets of the suits are often smaller, minority-owned businesses.

We need a legislature that will work to stop this kind of abuse.
