The State Senate Judiciary Committee has begun considering reforms in our jury system.
Among the proposals are an increase in jury pay from $5 to $40 per day, free parking,
child care reimbursements and tax credit for employers who pay their workers during jury
duty.
These efforts should be applauded. The way we treat jurors is shocking. If we want
everyone to participate then we need to show prospective jurors enough common courtesies
that they will be willing to serve.
